A delegation led by the Austrian ambassador to Pakistan Andrea Wicke met the Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi at the VC Secretariat on Wednesday.
They discussed various proposals regarding academic collaboration and joint research between the University of Karachi and the Austrian varsities. Andrea Wicke was briefed about the ongoing academic and research activities and recently launched new degree programs in different departments. She appreciated the presence of a large number of female faculty and students on the campus and hoped that they would bring positive changes in society.
“It is good to see many females on the campus. I hope they will become a major factor in the workforce of Pakistan.”
Later, they visited Dr. A. Q. Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (KIBGE), the Department of Food Science and Technology, and the Area Study Center for Europe. They met the faculty members and discussed the possibilities regarding the joint teaching facilities and research activities for teachers, students, and researchers. The visitors were informed about the research and teaching activities and international joint ventures.
On this occasion, Andrea Wicke and the delegation were informed that the KIBGE faculty would like to do research in various fields with Austrian universities and hope that the Austrian ambassador will play her role to make it possible in the near future.
Austrian Ambassador Andrea Wicke mentioned that Pakistan is geographically very important in this region and Austria is willing to play a positive role in its development.
