Local talent of Pakistan in the Ports and Shipping Sector is significantly enhancing the efficiency of operations of ports in China, Hong Kong, and Saudi Arabia, successfully managing their remote vessel planning, yard planning, and documentation.
“Hutchison Ports Pakistan’s commitment to advancing the industry and local talent in Pakistan is evident from the success of our Regional Operational Center (ROC), which is providing remote vessel planning, yard planning, and documentation services to three sister terminals in Hong Kong and China,” said Changsu Kim, General Manager and Head of Business Unit of Hutchison Ports Pakistan.
Hutchison Ports Pakistan has recently extended these services to Jazan Port in Saudi Arabia. “This move not only enhances the company’s global influence but also provides an exceptional opportunity for our team of around 100 young Pakistani professionals to gain international exposure while working remotely within their own country,” said Kim.
It is pertinent to note that the ROC started operations in October 2018, and has since witnessed remarkable growth by strategically planning an average of 650 vessels a month. Since its inception, it has planned almost 32,000 vessels, underscoring its indispensable role in the group’s operational landscape.
He added that Hutchison Ports Pakistan through its longstanding investment in Pakistan’s port infrastructure has been a key player in providing professional development opportunities for the country’s youth. “Our role goes beyond just managing ports; we are actively modernizing Pakistan’s shipping sector, tapping into the nation’s economic potential, and nurturing local talent, providing them a dynamic platform to thrive on a global scale, helping us to shape the industry’s future,” Kim added.
Looking ahead, he expressed optimism about the container terminal industry in Pakistan, driven by Hutchison Ports Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to investing in port infrastructure and cutting-edge technology. “Hutchison Ports Pakistan is not merely a hub for logistics but a catalyst for progress, positioning Pakistan on the map of international maritime excellence,” said Kim.
