While criticizing the media, Riphah International University (RIU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Anis Ahmad has said that the media have been brainwashing young professionals into going abroad and bringing about massive brain drain, while the country calls for their knowledge-cum-expertise.

“After graduation, now you are entering the world with enormous challenges. The real life has started now. You are in a time when the media has brainwashed you to leave the country which has caused an enormous amount of brain drain. Allah has given you the third largest reservoir with enormous resources and a population that has a lot to offer. Your country needs you,” he said this while speaking as a chief guest during a degree awarding ceremony held at the Jinnah Convention Centre of Iqra University Islamabad H-9 campus.

Dr Ahmad who is a social scientist of international repute and founding VC of the RIU delivered an insightful address on challenges and opportunities fresh graduates face in a globalized world nowadays.

He commended Ibrahim Khan, Chairman of Iqra University Islamabad Campus, for their outstanding contributions to the education sector.

Iqra University (IU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Waseem Qazi congratulated the graduates and emphasised the university’s mission to nurture critical thinking and civic responsibility.

“In its two decades of establishment, we have achieved significant milestones, particularly by achieving the number 1 rank among business universities of the country by the Higher Education Commission and concurrently being ranked number 1 for the past 1 decade by Charter Inspection and Evaluation Committee (CIEC). And the fact that today we have graduated more than 15,000 students. What’s more, we have graduated more than 10,000 women and the like,” he said this while highlighting the IU’s achievements.

He said that the IU has been playing a pivotal role in the development of higher education sector of the country.

“I hope, and I pray that Iqra University upholds its tradition of producing leaders for tomorrow, who go on to serve their nation in a befitting manner,” he said.

A total of 615 graduates including 397 boys and 218 girls were awarded degrees, while degrees were also conferred on 24 post-graduates and four PhD scholars in the event. 24 gold medals were also awarded to those who outperformed with dedication and secured highest marks in various disciplines including business administration, computing and technology, social sciences, fashion and design, and media studies and that.

Parents, educationists and the university faculty also celebrated success of the degree winners who carried the day and won laurels.

IU remains committed to fostering a dynamic society through research, technical proficiency, critical thinking, and social responsibility.  The varsity is aimed to develop leadership, promote entrepreneurship, advance learning methodology, training, lifelong learning, industry and university interaction and uphold Islamic values.

According to the website of the IU, it traces its geneses to January 1998, when it started its operations in Karachi. The Sindh government chartered the university; vide Sindh Ordinance VI of 2000. Currently, the IU has campuses in Karachi and Islamabad. The aim of top management of the varsity is to develop an institution of higher learning that provides quality education to people of the country with an affordable price.

The university offers a variety of programs in different disciplines including business administration, computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, media science, fashion design, education, social science, pharmacy and health sciences. These programmes are offered in multiple campuses of Karachi and Islamabad.

Karachi campus is geographically spread over five prominent locations including main campus at Shaheed-e-Millat Road, Gulshan Campus at Abid Town, and North Campus in north Karachi, Bahria Town campus, and Airport Campus covering the population of different districts of Karachi. The facilities in campuses include a well-stocked library, state of the art computing facilities, well equipped teaching labs, centrally air-conditioned classrooms equipped with the latest audio-visual aids, incubation centers, auditoriums, seminar rooms, sports facilities, prayer halls, swimming pool and gymnasiums.
