Sindh Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would get a sweeping victory in the upcoming general elections because of a unifying force in the country, while the current federal government would successfully complete its term.
He said this while speaking to media persons at the Sindh Assembly media corner. He said that the party has served as a unifying force for all four provinces of the country, emphasizing a unity, solidarity, and understanding as core policies of the party. He said that the party has brought about significant improvements in the health sector while stating that if the PPP came to power at the federal level after the polls, they would knuckle down to work towards expanding health facilities of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery at the Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in Karachi to other provinces of the country.
He said that the PPP’s approach has garnered a favorable reception among people belonging to every walk of life in the country, evident by the party’s recent victories in by-elections across the country including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. He gave a credit to the leadership of the arty to be able to bring all mainstream political parties to a negotiable table to find out a solution to problems being faced by countrymen in the current political and economic scenario.
“There are visible attempts by Israel to protect the leadership of the PTI. They are plotting to make PTI chief Imran Khan leave the country under the guise of human rights concerns. There is an ongoing paid campaign against our nation in various countries across the world,” he said.
Replying to a question about dissolution of the Sindh assembly for impending general elections, Memon stated that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah would take a decision about it after consulting the party’s leadership.
Speaking about Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Memon said that they should not be taken seriously as they intended to create such an atmosphere before the elections. He reiterated that the party’s leadership has always adopted to implement a reconciliation policy, but they are neither afraid nor worried. He further said that it was upto people to make a decision about any political party as those who were rejected by people would meet the same fate, while those who were supported by people would emerge victorious in the polls.
Answering a query about the May 9 mayhem, Memon stated that the government was committed to taking an action against any criminal activities. He said that despite substantial evidence, no action was taken against “Ladla” alluding to PTI chairman Imran Khan who has not yet faced imprisonment. He said that Mr Khan always enjoyed a special treatment from certain influential individuals, allowing him to secure a bail repeatedly.
Memon said that police were busy taking stern actions against highwaymen and armed robbers as they have sophisticated and modern weapons, but Sindh police have been equipped with modern weapons to combat and control dacoits.
Talking about holding imminent general elections, Memon said that the polls would be conducted in a free, fair and transparent way according to the constitution and the law.
Meanwhile, he said that considering the current economic situation, the PPP has initiated the establishment of the Dhabiji Economic Zone to attract global investments. Pakistan requires long-term economic policies, given its status as an agricultural country with abundant natural resources, including valuable minerals.
The Sindh government has planned to organize an international investment conference to further encourage investments. Substantial progress has been witnessed in the transport, energy, agriculture, irrigation, communication, and other sectors within the province.
