KARACHI: Securing licences sans other means makes Driving Licence Sindh (DLS) Korangi branch exceptional as scores of applicants daily visit the branch to get their respective licences, while enjoying an unusually- polite attitude of the staff and a professionally-congenial working environment.
DSP Masood Akhter Khan
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Masood Akhter Khan has been appointed to the position of the DLS Korangi branch head by the Sindh police in a bid to eliminate corruption and cause a good atmosphere, while boosting morale of police and confidence of people where aspirants could obtain their licences without greasing palm of any agent or even staff.
Mr Khan who has served the police department for almost 36 years bringing a great wealth of experience has always bristled with a shining professional career throughout his three-and-half decades.
Because of his down-to-earth and upright personality, he bravely served in five different foreign countries with the UN peace-keeping missions for eight years out of his total service where he has won many laurels.
Pakistani police are ranked third in the world in terms of performance, services and dedication. If the police are given a free hand and a level playing field to grapple with a situation, the officers always outperform and prove their professional competence.
“We are ambassadors of the country abroad and when I am in Pakistan, I am an ambassador of my police department, while trying hard to stop all malpractices in my office. I procure the first-hand information from each and every applicant about the conduct of the staff and the process. They smilingly let me know about the feedback by declining any rude attitude and any other illegal means in pursuit of their licences. Kind words and satisfying faces of applicants lift my spirits and my bosses [top officers] encourage me to do more,” he told Newstaj, while questioning the applicants at his office where he finally approves them (licences).
It is really a commendable initiative of the Sindh police to appoint such officers who can give a great sense of relief and can make an embodiment of successful officers as people usually are afraid of names of government departments where they are maltreated and agonized, and their work is intentionally being procrastinated, until other means are used. In every department, there are a couple of God-fearing and honest officials who are the backbone of the organisations but a large number of officials are not good.
Marvelous services of competent and honest officers in police stations can be deployed, while boosting confidence of people, discouraging Thana Culture [rude attitude following corrupt practices] and admonishing the staff to behave politely and discharge duties sincerely and devotedly.
The DLS Korangi branch has set a good precedence, while fulfilling all formalities and checks without any pressure and every candidate goes through the process of the documentation, fitness and driving test, then the driving licences are issued on merit without any source, recommendation and extra money.
There are five functional DLS branches in Karachi including Clifton, Nazimabad, Korangi, Saeedabad and Malir, while two other branches consisting of Saudabad and Kathor, Gadap are in the pipeline. Another five DLS branches are fully functional in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana and Sukkur and a few sub-branches in the interior of Sindh.
Mr Khan delivered his outstanding services in Shaheed Abdul Aziz Billo Recruit Centre, Hyderabad district for over a year while having an astonishing command over the recruits and inculcating recruits with a sense of honesty, integrity, unity, organization, sincerity, patriotism, a team work and the like.
Except for the DLS Malir branch, he headed all DLS brnaches with the passage of time in Karachi and was also an incharge of the DLS Hyderabad branch where he also took a principled stand to kick malpractice-cum-maltreatment habit and raised the ire of the staff and influential persons.
The Sindh police call for educated and dutiful officers like Mr Khan who belongs to a noble and educated family and holds a degree of the master of business administration (MBA) in human resources management.
Categories of licences and fees
All categories of licences which are made included heavy transport vehicle (HTC), light transport vehicle (LTV), motorcar/jeep, public service vehicle (PSV), motor cycle rickshaw (MCR), motor-cycle, renewal, learning and international driving permit with fees as per the chart above.
DSP Masood Akhter Khan is an extraordinary and good person who has transformed the entire environment of the branch. He is always eager to serve people in both Karachi and Hyderabad divisions of Sindh.
