BERLIN: While welcoming Pakistan’s contingent at Special Olympics World Games , Stefanie Remlinger, Mayor of Central Berlin, Germany, has lauded spirit and zeal of enthusiastic players and said as sports connect the hearts.

“It is an honor for us to host the Special Olympic World Games. We welcome the Pakistani team on their arrival in Berlin,” she expressed her views at a meeting with Pakistani players and officials upon the Pak contingent’s arrival in Berlin, while holding the grand reception. Moreover, Germany holds a significant place in the world in terms of sports.

Stefanie further said: “Sports connects the hearts. Germany and Pakistani nation are nations that love their respective countries and sports. I am very happy to meet the Pakistani players and I can see the spirit of winning and a lot of abilities in them, especially it is a welcome that in Pakistan, along with men, women are also showing their full potential in the field of sports, while addressing the players, Mayor said that In the coming days, you will meet many players from different countries, along with the game, a tour of the beautiful and historical places of Berlin has also been arranged for you, which will make you all very happy.”

The head of  Pak contingent, Ms Ronak Lakhani, thanked the mayor and the entire team and said that sports is not just about winning medals, but the real thing is to unite the society, especially the society and the community through sports, and “we have come here to win the hearts of all with sports.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan contingent comprising athletes and officials have arrived in Berlin to participate in the Special Olympic World Games to be played in Berlin, Germany from June 17 to 25. Officials of the World Games Organizing Committee welcomed the Pakistani contingent and officials at the airport.

Seven thousand athletes from 190 countries along with their unified partners participated in the World Games.  As many as 36 different sports competitions will be held in the mega event. Special Olympic Pakistan athletes are participating in eleven sports. The national squad will feature in athletics, badminton, basketball, bocci, cycling, futsal, hockey, powerlifting, swimming, tennis and table tennis.

Before leaving Germany, the special athlete of the national team, Abdul Haq, said:  “Representing Pakistan is a matter of honor for us. We are very enthusiastic and dedicated to the national spirit for the mega event and Inn Shaa Allah the nation will be given good news of good results.

 

Athlete Simran said that he is carrying the spirit of victory for Pakistan. Mohammad Bangash said that Pakistani athletes are very talented and eager to learn. The athletes have been trained hard for the championship.

Head of delegation of the national team and chairperson of Special Olympics Pakistan, Ronak Lakhani said that athletes have made extensive preparations for the World Games.

The athletes will try their best to reach the victory stand by outperforming in the games.

She further said that the best teams of the world are taking part in the games, “but we also have good preparations. We hope that the young players will do their best to get medals for the country.” All abilities will be deployed and utilized efficiently to win laurels for the country, she concluded.

Moreover, officials of the Pakistan embassy in Berlin welcomed the Pakistani squad by presenting large bouquet of flowers.
